Does it really work to be active while studying?
There is always the opportunity to try being active and feel for yourself. There are different types of involvement at different levels, try your hand at it and find something that suits you. Don't forget that your studies are important!
How much time do you need to spend being active?
There are different levels of commitment when it comes to being active in student life. It ranges from helping out at a lunch to working full-time within your organization. This means that you can adjust your commitment to your studies, other hobbies, and energy.
Do you need to have previous experience to get involved?
You have to learn somewhere, which is why most organizations are open to everyone, regardless of previous experience (or lack thereof). You may not be in charge of a lunch or club without having done it before, but everyone can work and learn in the meantime!
Can you try working before you decide where you want to be active?
In most organizations, it's a good idea to try working on an activity (committee such as lunch, pub or club) or helping out at an event (such as a job fair or prom) once. If you don't like it, you can try something else within the organization or in some other part of student life!
Do you get any introduction or training?
You do not need any experience to apply for various commitments within student life, although it can be valuable when recruiting. Regardless of how much experience you have, you will never be thrown out into the deep end, but will be trained within the organization(s) you choose to get involved in. Many commitments include various types of meetings and training to create a sense of security for all active participants.
What do you get out of getting involved (besides the social aspect)?
Many people use their involvement when looking for jobs and internships. Many employers see involvement in student life as good experiences and valuable qualifications. Your involvement can show everything from teamwork, management and the ability to plan and organize events. In addition, you get to know many new people in student life who can be good contacts for the future.
